Volunteering and Opportunities, February 2024, Romania

On the 13th of February, our team of international volunteers embarked on a journey to Gh. Duca High School. With hearts brimming with enthusiasm and minds teeming with possibilities, we delivered a workshop aimed at igniting the spark of compassion and community in the hearts of young minds.

Volunteering isn’t just about giving; it’s about the profound connections we forge and the lives we touch along the way. As we stood before the eager faces of students, we painted a vibrant picture of the impact volunteering can have, transcending borders and boundaries to unite people in pursuit of positive change.

Our mission was clear: to showcase the myriad benefits of volunteering and equip students with the tools to embark on their own journey of service and self-discovery. We delved into the depths of personal and professional growth that volunteering offers, emphasizing the opportunities to develop skills, expand networks, and leave a lasting legacy of kindness and compassion.

Guiding students to various digital resources, from local community centers to the vast expanse of online platforms, we unveiled a world of possibilities tailored to their interests and availability.

As European Union citizens, we highlighted the wealth of opportunities available, from the European Solidarity Corps to European Plus projects, Eures, and Eurodesk. But our exploration didn’t stop at Europe’s borders; we ventured into the realm of international volunteering, showcasing opportunities such as UNESCO volunteering, ESC for humanitarian aid, UN volunteering, and Worldpackers.

Yet, our journey was not confined to the realm of information and resources. In workshops designed to inspire and engage, we invited students to breathe life into their dreams of exploration and service. With colorful post-it notes in hand, they charted their travel aspirations on maps of Europe and the world, sparking their imaginations.

But the magic didn’t end there. Through reflection and discussion, students pondered the qualities they believed volunteers should possess, their thoughts etched onto post-it notes as testaments to their aspirations and ideals. These workshops weren’t just exercises in imagination; they were seeds of empowerment, igniting the flame of curiosity and compassion within each student.
