Adult learners in a digital world

From 9-12 May, TEAM4Excellence participated in the Erasmus mobility program for seniors from AdultEdu project, hosted by Avtokino LTD, which included a comprehensive agenda focusing on enhancing digital literacy for adult learners. The event took place over four days and featured a blend of theoretical knowledge, practical work, cultural experiences, and social innovation activities, all aimed at empowering seniors in the digital world.

On the first day, participants gathered for an introduction to digital literacy at Varna University of Management. The morning session included icebreakers and team-building exercises to promote mutual support among participants. This was followed by a culinary tour of the Culinary Arts Institute, where participants discovered the exceptional educational system and the excellence in gastronomy that defines this prestigious institution. It was a unique opportunity to learn about high-performance management and culinary arts. The afternoon was dedicated to hands-on activities, where participants honed their basic computer skills, learned to navigate web browsers, and accessed reliable online information through our online platform.

The second day was dedicated to social responsibility, taking the group to The Social Teahouse in Varna, a social enterprise offering first jobs and skills training for orphans. Here, participants discovered an oasis of support and mentorship for young people with reduced opportunities or at risk of dropping out of school. The day’s activities also included a walking tour and presentation at Talyana Art District, fostering discussions on the potential of social innovation to tackle community challenges and create positive change.

Day three focused on cultural diversity and online communication tools. Participants explored different cultures through interactive discussions and visits to the Beloslav Museum of Glass and a real submarine museum. At the Glass Museum, they witnessed the process of glass making and decoration, watching professionals transform a small glass bubble into a graceful swan in just a few minutes. At the Slava Submarine Museum, they explored the torpedo launch system, communication, and navigation systems, offering a unique glimpse into maritime history. The afternoon session introduced attendees to various social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, messaging apps like WhatsApp, and basic photo editing tools to promote their Erasmus mobility experiences.

The final day featured advanced internet skills training at the Beehive Coworking Space. Participants learned techniques for advanced web searching, evaluating online sources, and utilizing online resources for lifelong learning and personal development. The program concluded with a reflection session, where participants shared their feedback, set personal goals for continued digital learning, and celebrated their achievements with a closing ceremony. Certificates were presented, and a group photo captured the friendships formed during the program.

This immersive and dynamic event not only equipped senior participants with essential digital skills but also inspired them to continue their journey of lifelong learning and social engagement.
