Peer Coaching as a Sustainable Source of Professional Development

During the 25th and 31st of October, we participated in the Peer Coaching as a Sustainable Source of Professional Development course, which took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Objectives of the course:

  • to prepare the participants to professionally lead a coaching session in the context of peer coaching;
  • to have a substantial understanding of coaching framework and coaching models;
  • to develop core coaching skills, including observation process, feedback, questioning, listening, raising awareness, establishing and maintaining an authentic relationship;
  • to be able to design a coaching session with different coaching tools included.

Some of the topics discussed during the course:

  • Relationship Awareness theory;
  • Introduction to conflict: the 3 conflict styles, the conflict sequence, conflict triggers;
  • Conflict model;
  • Coaching principles;
  • GROW coaching model in triads, reflection, feedback;
  • Dilts model of personality;
  • Planning follow-up activities, dissemination and implementation of learning outcomes.

Among the learning outcomes of the participants we can recapture:

  • Exchanging good practices on peer coaching, and becoming acquainted with a variety of coaching tools such are drawings, coaching wheels and questionnaires;
  • Discussion on a framework for peer coaching and practical activities to integrate these approaches in teaching and to develop skills of adult learners from disadvantaged groups;
  • Participation in exercises on establishing a mentor relationship between participants and trainer. It follows a two-way communication process including discussions, interactive games, working in groups and pairs, presentations, case studies, thinking techniques and individual activities; 
  • The practice of experiential learning and workshops…
