The Power of Play training course was held successfully in Urdos, France, between 28/06 – 5/07/2021.
The aim was to introduce youth workers and youngsters to positive, healthy activities that encourage co-operation and strengthen confidence while developing co-ordination and persistence. The end result is much more than learning these skills – it also helps them to improve self-esteem, build on social capital, and direct people towards positive ways of living. The main goal of the project was to teach the participant various social games and show them how to use them in the context of non-formal education and youth work.
At the end of the training course, the participants are equipped with knowledge on how to choose, prepare and implement social games with groups. After the project, the participants from Romania will lead one workshop including social games for youngsters in Constanta.
Read more about the experience from Alexandru, one of the participants:
“This training was very much based on games. It started with getting to know each other, games of names and others of this kind. It was followed by a day of confidence games. The most important day from my point of view was day 3 where we had teambuilding games. Starting with working in pairs and ending with having a whole team challenge, we all went through a series of more and more challenges. The next day was a day where we combined the useful with the pleasant and after a first series of workshops held by the participants, we left to explore the Aquitaine region. We visited and bathed in waterfalls and enjoyed views straight out of fairy tales. We then had a day where we had the opportunity to share with each other the knowledge we had gained from our own experience of working with young people, followed by workshops on discrimination, stereotypes and prejudice. We ended the training by writing letters to each other and evaluating our experience. “
