Navigational Mastery workshop

On Thursday, November 7, our volunteers hosted an engaging Navigational Mastery workshop at Mihai Eminescu National College ,Liceul CFR and  Scoala Gimnaziala Nr.30 Gheorghe Titeica. This workshop was designed to introduce students to the fascinating world of maritime navigation, teamwork on board, and essential safety protocols that guide life at sea.

To start, we discussed key crew roles, from Captain to Deckhand. This gave students a clear understanding of how each role supports safe and efficient ship operations. Then, we introduced the nautical alphabet, an essential tool for precise communication at sea. Students enjoyed practicing with it by spelling their names, which sparked interest and curiosity.

Afterward, we focused on the “Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea” (COLREG). In small scenarios, students took on the role of an officer, deciding how to avoid collisions. This activity helped them understand the importance of safety protocols.

To conclude, we played a team-based word game using maritime terms. This encouraged collaboration and reinforced what they had learned.

By the end, participants had a solid grasp of maritime essentials and the skills needed to work on a ship. Through discussions, hands-on exercises, and interactive games, we hoped to inspire interest in maritime careers and the challenges they bring.
