Online Navigation Simulator Workshop

In our quest to promote blue careers, we have created hybrid events to showcase new technologies that students who want to pursue a career in the navy can use. In this way, we presented the use of online navigation simulators for teachers from technological schools located in Romania and Moldova.The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) adopted rules on the mandatory availability of ECDIS equipment through the Maritime Safety Committee. ECDIS is a computerised navigation system consisting mainly of a computer, a standardised database and navigation sensors. In addition to displaying navigation information in real time, ECDIS is also used to perform other functions: route planning, navigation monitoring and automatic warning.

The workshop was presented at the National Community Conference “Education for Science” on 30th of April and focused on how to work with such an electronic map system and how to implement such a system for free in the pre-university education system. The demonstration during the workshop was done on Wartsila Cloud Simulator from  Maritime University of Constanta.
