International Maritime Organization conference, May 2023, United Kingdom
During 10-19 May, Dr. Nicoleta Acomi, an esteemed Romanian expert from the TEAM4Excellence Association and a professor at Constanta Maritime University, participated in the 10th session of the IMO’s Sub-committee of Navigation and Search and Rescue (NSCR) which took place at IMO headquarters in London. She represented the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU), the global network of leading universities providing Maritime Education and Training to seafarers for the global shipping industry. Dr. Acomi, empowered by the trust placed in her, provided strategic recommendations for the future of education and training in the maritime sector. This meeting offered a valuable opportunity for industry and academic professionals to discuss the skills required for future maritime careers.
Moreover, on May 18, Dr. Nicoleta Acomi had the honour of participating in a special dinner alongside IMO Secretary General Kitack Lim, in celebration of the International Day for Women in Maritime and the achievements of women in the maritime industry. During this significant event, Dr. Acomi, vice‑president of WISTA’s Romania branch, engaged with representatives from WISTA International and forged collaborations to support the “Mobilizing Networks for Gender Equality” initiative.
As mentor for the Blue Generation project, Dr. Acomi provides professional guidance to young women and men pursuing careers in the blue economy sectors.
